Mindstep Foundation’s Relay Raises £20,000 for Suicide Prevention Research
The Mindstep Relay once again proved to be a resounding success, taking place from Friday May 5th to Sunday, May 7th 2023. Over 160 participants from around the world united to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention, resulting in an impressive total of £20,000. These funds will significantly contribute to the Mindstep Foundation’s ongoing efforts in suicide prevention.
This year’s Mindstep Relay was truly international with participants joining from various locations such as Dubai, New Zealand, LA, Belize and Germany. Engaging in diverse activities like cycling, running, cross-fit, reading, and hiking, each participant chose a one-hour time slot during the non-stop 52-hour event. The enthusiastic response from individuals and families who took part has been truly inspiring, underscoring the profound impact of the Mindstep Foundation’s mission.
Established by the Davies family, who reside in Monmouth, South Wales, in memory of their son Max, who tragically died by suicide in 2018, the Mindstep Foundation is dedicated to funding research into the causes of suicide and providing support for those affected by or at risk of suicide. By investing in vital research and raising awareness about mental health conditions and warning signs, the Foundation strives to develop effective interventions for those in need. The entire Davies family, including Max’s parents Tracey and Lloyd, and his siblings Georgia, Jasmine, and Rudy, actively participated in the relay.
Expressing her heartfelt gratitude, Georgia Davies, trustee of the Mindstep Foundation and Max’s sister, shared her appreciation for all the participants and supporters, stating, “The Mindstep Relay surpassed all expectations. We are incredibly thankful to everyone who dedicated their time and energy to this important cause. The funds raised will have a meaningful impact on our mission to prevent loss to suicide. We are aware that suicide affects so many lives, including many of those who took part in the relay.”
Tracey and Lloyd Davies, Max’s parents, also expressed their appreciation for the participants and donors who contributed to the resounding success of the Mindstep Relay event. They said, “We are humbled and heartened by the overwhelming response from our community and beyond. Your generosity and dedication to this vital research are truly inspiring. Together, we can make a real difference in breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide prevention. Thank you for supporting the Mindstep Foundation and helping us honor Max’s memory in such a meaningful way.”
The Mindstep Relay event raised over £20,000, with each team member striving to raise £50 for Mindstep. In addition, Convey Law, a partner of the Mindstep Foundation, generously donated an additional amount through staff participation in the relay and Conveyancing Foundation Charity Lotto donations.
The Mindstep Relay not only highlighted the critical importance of suicide prevention but also fostered a profound sense of unity among participants worldwide. Their collective effort and unwavering support demonstrated the remarkable power of coming together to address mental health challenges.
